Tuesday 14 September - Gardening for biodiversity

Facilitated by Rachel Eckermann

Want to turn your garden into habitat for wildlife? Do you want to provide habitat for range of little native animals? Insects, lizards and native birds need native plants with a variety of layers and ages of plantings. You can encourage greater biodiversity in our city through your own garden.

Did you know butterflies taste with their feet? Can you imagine flying over the city looking for a place to lay eggs for your caterpillars, and not being able to find the right plant? Having diversity of plants, logs, sticks, leaf litter, rocks on your property means living things have the essential natural elements to flourish. Gardening for biodiversity is vital to bring back the habitat required for our local native species.
